picking on 7year olds and their grammas

October 22, 2008

Ok this all starts yesterday evening when i got home from work. I drove home, same as i always do, and when i got to my parking lot, there were 4 kids on thier bicycles. 3 of them took off, and the 4th one was trying to follow. I stopped my car and waited for her to get out of my way, but instead of going foreward, she slowly started drifting towards the Mustang.  I said “watch out!” but she didnt hear me. WATCH OUT! i said a lot louder, but she kept getting closer to my car. “HEY LOOKOUT!!” is this kid fucking deaf? im thinking and then I happened to notice that her bike didnt have anything covering the metal on her handlebars, and i said HEY DONT HIT MY CAR! Thunk! she hit my car. then she goes “oh , darn” and takes off.  I had no idea who this kid is or where she went, but i pulled into my parking spot, got out and looked at the car and sure enough, theres a scratch.  Its not very big, but i dont really like how she said o darn and rode away. I looked around for her and she was nowhere, so i told Angie what happened and she called and talked to the office.  The lady up there said she had an idea who the kid was and where she lived. They also talked about the rules of the apartment complex, and how kids are supposed to be accompanied by adults, keep bikes and skateboards on the sidewalks only, blah blah blah.  We made it a point to be concerned about the kids safety too.

Fast forward to today after work- I caught someone that works in the office and gave a description of the little girl, and he told me who her grandmother is and what apartment she lives in.  He also said that she’s a nice understanding lady and i shouldnt have any problem talking to her. so i went home for a while, collected my thoughts, and went to her door. This little old mexican lady answers the door. i told her who i was and i was there because i think her little girl ran into my car with her bike. She immediately went on the offensive.  When i told her she was riding with 3 other kids she said i have to prove which one hit my car.  When i started telling her anything pretty much she interrupted me with a retarded question, even tho i told her the bike that hit my car was sitting in her living room. basically, i got nowhere except pissed off.  I tried to handle this like a grown up, and look what it got me.  So, I came home, grabbed the phone and called the police to file a formal report.  About 30 minutes later, the police officer shows up, and I told him everything that i just told you.  When he asked what i wanted out of this, i just said someone has to pay to fix it.  Then, i walked over to her apartment with the officer, showed him where she lived, and then i went and hung out back by his car for a few minutes.  While i was standing there, 3 people walk up. A little girl, some old indian lady, and i think like a teenager i dont know i wasnt payin attention to her cuz she didnt talk to me.  The little girl asked why i called the cops on her grandma. i said we just have to take care of some business. Then the old indian lady started asking me a bunch of questions. She had none of the facts straight, and smelled alot like booze. so i told her “dont talk to me, your drunk”. so she wandered over and started talkin to the police man. I was like Yesssss! cuz she was sloshed haha.  Basically after that i went back to my apartment and waited for the officer to come back and tell me what happened.

About 10 minutes later the cop came back to talk to me. He said that he talked to the little girl’s mom, who immediately blew up at the little girl.  She yelled and yelled.  The little girl, who is 7 years old, admitted to the police man that she ran into my car with her bike. She thought the cop was there to arrest her and take her to jail.  (i cant help but chuckle when i think about that). He told me that my best bet was to get some touch up paint and touch it up, cuz they didnt look like they have much money.  Then he advised me not to file a police report because of some “live harmoniously” clause in my lease, filing a police report could get me kicked out of here, so i let that go, but um touch up paint? my ass.  thats not how Dad would do it. somehow, sometime tomorrow, i’m taking it in for an estimate and they will still see the bill.  I would be nicer if things had gone differently.  I think the lesson here is

“Acting as a civil adult only works around other civil adults.” (i wonder what that’s like)

in the middle of all this chaos, my neighbors were having a birthday party for their granddaughter who turned 2 today.  I was outside with Emma getting fresh air, and they started talking to me. then, they offered me Chicharones. (fried pork, for u gringos out there) then, they invited Emma and me over to watch them play pinata.  They even let Emma take a swing! lol and then, after the pinata broke, they gave me a bag of candy. and then they invited me in for cake and to sing happy birthday and even let me stay to watch her open presents lol. She got 1 present, but it was huge!! if she got more after that, i dunno cuz i brought Emma home cuz she was hungry… they sent me home with cake. :) overall, good day.

Alright, this subject was a bit of a challenge for me, because i dont have many bridge pix, and very few archway pix that i can think of… so i did a little digging and here’s what i came up with.

This would be the only real archway pic i’m giving you today.

Usually when i approach my computer, I know what it is that im going to write about. Today, that was not the case. I didnt want to bore u with the details of my everyday life, so instead, i have decided to pull a random disc out of my stack of discs, and share with you what is on it.

The disc i chose is from 2005, it was a desktop clean up folder. there’s lotsa stuff on it, so i’ll share some of it with you.

My New Route

October 4, 2008

DHL is downsizing, scrambling to find ways to hang on to some money.  if you read the previous blog about my job, you remember that my route was cancelled recently and i was placed on the dock.  Sticking around and waiting for something to happen paid off… sort of.

A few weeks ago Rich informed route 301 that he was going to be taking over route 335s area on top of the area he already had.  That driver quit the next day.  plan B was to get the driver from 335 to do it.  He took everything out, delivered everything on 301’s side, and wasnt able to deliver anything on his origional side of the route.  Rich told him at the end of the work day that he had to take all that other stuff out, and he refused to, (mostly cuz they were all businesses and they closed at 5) so rich fired him haha.  So Rich finally turns back to me.  ” do you think you can handle it?”  he says… to which i replied, YES!!!

so i come back in Monday morning ready to bust out this monster route… this picture does not do it justice but heres basically what it looks like.

route 301

i deliver inside the green lines

on a slow day i take out 70 stops.  the route doesnt seem like its that hard, the tricky part is figuring out how to make it flow.  i can practically do the downtown side with my eyes shut, but the area in the heights is messing with my head.  i cannot seem to get the order of the streets down, and it seems like i’m only making left turns.  its a Race with the clock.  i have to have some things off my truck by 10:30 am, some other things off by noon, and some other things off by 3:00.  in the middle of all that theres ground pieces that can be delivered whenever, as long as they get delivered, and i have a pick up route on top of all of this.  Some places want their stuff picked up by 1:00 pm, which throws everything off.

The first day i took over this route, my gps unit got smashed in the back door of my van.  That messed everything up for me… making me resort to the ever confusing map book. Thats too hard for me to use, so i actually resorted to google maps.  When i had the gps, i would enter all my addresses, and when i’d get to a stop, i’d look to see what the next closest one is and go there. it saved me soooo much time.  so when the gps broke, i had to come home and google all my addresses and write down directions to each place- sounds like alot of work, but actually it saved my butt haha.

the New GPS

the New GPS

i went out on wednesday and bought a new gps unit.  this one is a lot different from the one i had before… better in a lot of ways, and at the same time, trickier to use.  i havent figured out how to make it route for me like the other one did.  i’m sure i’ll get it, but its gona take some experamenting, which requires time, which i dont really have while on route- but i am getting the hang of it.  The last 2 days of my route, i got attempts on every piece of freight in my van, and brought back like 5 peices that could not be delivered because of things like signature required or a COD payment.  when i master this route, im hittin em up for another raise, and then im gona take a vacation.

i will say this… I’m not bored on this route. LOL

someone was messing with my alarm clocks and they are almost 4 hours ahead, so i got up hella early, which works out cuz i have time to actually make a photo friday post!

IF IT ISNT LOUD, IT ISNT MUSIC.

a few years back i met this dude named Stavros. He ran a studio called Poetry Television, which was a great idea… on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week he had concerts. When he found out i’m into photography, he put me to work. fortunately, i got to keep all the pictures i took- theres no way i can share all of them with you or you would be reading my post for days- so heres the best of those pix (in no particular order)

Photobucket
the HAVOC rocked the house so hard the cops showed up 10 minutes after they started playing to shut the show down.
